I've made this but not tasted it yet. I know once it's cut, it will be gone & I want to save it for closer to Christmas but it smelled so good as it was baking, I'm posting it anyway. I've never had a bad recipe from tht particular series of cookbooks (Company's Coming)
Seafoam Squares 1/2 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 2 cups flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 2 egg yolks 3 tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla Measure all ingredients together into large bowl. Crumble well. Press into ungreased 9x13 inch pan. (The recipe calls for a 9 inch square pan but said that the pan needed to be deep so I used a larger pan)
1 cup (6 oz) chocolate chips Sprinkle chips over top of first layer.
2 egg whites 1 cup packed brown sugar Beat egg whites until frothy. Add sugar 1/3 at a time, beating until stiff. Spread over top of chips.
3/4 cup chopped nuts Sprinkle chopped nuts over top of the beaten egg whites, pressing lightly so they won't fall off when baked. Bake in 350F overn for 35 minutes. Cut into squares. Keep covered so meringue softens enough to cut.

Carolyn, I think I made a cake that had a seafoam frosting that sounds a lot like this. It was delicious. I'll try to find the recipe and compare the two.

I finally cut this today & packed it into a container. We ate the last row (didn't fit in the container). It is very good. The topping crumbles easily but it tastes great.
