This is my Amish grandma's Chicken dressing recipe handed down from her mom. Let's see that would make it my great grandma I guess. lol
I never knew there was dressing that I wouldn't like until I was grown and ordered it in a restaurant. I was so dissappointed.
1pound 4 oz. bread broken up the night before and let set out in a bowl covered with a towel.
4 eggs beaten 2 C. chicken or turkey cut up 5 C. Chicken or turkey broth 1 1/2 tsp. salt 2 Tlsp. pepper 2 C. chopped celery 1 1/2 sticks of real butter
I have also added the following to my dressing recipe: 1 C. dried cranberries 1 pound browned sage sausage 2 large peices of cornbread
Mix all together in large bowl. Melt 1 1/2 sticks or real butter in skillet and let it get very brown. Pour over dressing and quickly stir all thru the dressing.
Pour in large baking pan 16X11X2 1/2 inch deep. Bake at 350 for 1 hour turn up to 425 and bake an additional 15 min. or until top is very browned and edges are crispy. (My favorite part)
This is very juicy and delicious, not dried out.

Sounds good. I hate dried out dressing. That's how dh's family cooks their's. I make it juicy like my mother did.

Me too,msumom... A few years ago, this elderly lady told us she put a can of cream of chicken and celery soup in her dressing..and then layered dressing with chopped chicken/turkey ending with dressing..She called her's "The Recipe"...She made it with skillet of cornbread/sage/chicken broth/eggs and left over biscuits or loaf bread..All I did was to make dressing like I always did and just add the soups...I do layer mine sometimes, just according to how much time I have...I also like to make it day before and let sit in ref. overnight..

Hazel, I thought "The Recipe" is something you drink. ![](http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/chirpingcat/biggrinjester1.gif) It was on The Walton's.

Hummm...I had not thought about that msumom, maybe a cup of "the recipe" in dressing would make it 'interesting'.....I bet it would perk up the group eating it... I remember the sisters on the Waltons, our dd always watched that show..
