Reply Low Fat Split Pea and Ham
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got this from the fitnessandfreebies subscriber only recipes and if you like split pea soup, this is REALLY good!
Split Pea and Ham Soup
8 cups water
1 pound dried split peas (about 2-1/4 cups)
1 pound 98% fat free or extra lean ham
One medium onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Two or three carrots, chopped
Two celery sticks, chopped
Heat water and peas to boiling. Boil for two minutes, then remove from heat
and cover. Let sit for one hour.
Add ham (whole), onion, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer until peas are
tender, about one hour.
Remove ham and trim meat from bone. Cut ham to 1/2-inch pieces. Stir ham, carrots, and celery into soup. Cover and simmer until veggies are tender, about 45 minutes.
This freezes well, too.

This sounds really good. I love split pea and ham soup, no one else here eats it, so to make this much means I'll eat it for a year even if I were to freeze it. Think I'll have to look at cutting the recipe.
Thanks!

My version,if I want it really lowfat, is to omit the meat, but add liquid SMOKE for flavour.
